Ethiopia, Imperial Order of the Star of Ethiopia, Grand Officers neck badge and breast star set in silver-gilt, by Mappin & Webb of London, with both insignia marked as such. Complete with original ribbon and neck ties. A high quality set of relatively early manufacture, circa late 1930’s to Second World War period though possibly earlier.

The Order of the Star of Ethiopia was founded by Emperor Menelik II in 1884-85 when he was Negus (King) of Shoa and prior to his becoming Emperor of Ethiopia in 1889, and is said to be based on an older award. It was awarded in five grades.
