Egyptian War pair awarded to Sergeant S.J. Rones, Royal Marines who saw 17 years service with the colours including in Egypt during the Egyptian War.

Samuel Jenkins Jones was born on 15th June 1858 and enlisted on 15th May 1876 seeing service with the Plymouth Division from November of that year until 30th November 1877 when he was embarked aboard a ship HMS Royal ****, (the papers being very faint and illegible) before returning to Plymouth Division in July 1879. He served there until he travelled to Egypt 1882 where he would take part in the Egyptian War
He would subsequently be promoted Colour Sergeant in 1882, be awarded a Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 28th January 1890 (which is missing) and his service would end on 22nd June 1893.
