Egyptian War Battle of Tel-El-Kebir pair awarded to Private J. Quinlan, 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment who saw service in Egypt during the Egyptian War where he would be present during the Battle of Tel-El-Kebir on 13th September 1882.

James Quinlan was born in Deptford, Kent and giving his trade as a labourer attested at Maidstone on 10th March 1878, subsequently seeing service as a Private (no. 851) with the 1st Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment initially at home before he would travel to Nova Scotia on 30th September 1879, and then to Gibraltar on 25th November 1880 where he stayed for just a month before travelling to South Africa on 27th December 1880 where he would remain until he returned home on 19th March 1882.
He would travel to Egypt on 3rd August 1882 then taking part in the Egyptian War and being present at the Battle of Tel-El-Kebir on 13th September 1882, short periods in Cyprus and back in Egypt followed before he would return home on 18th May 1884 where he remained until 4th May 1888 when he was discharged having been convicted by a civil power of a felony.
