Egypt - Republic of: Order of the Republic, 1st type (1953-1972) 1st Class Grand Cordon set of insignia, silver, silver-gilt and enamels, comprising breast star and sash badge, with full length of sash ribbon, and also lapel rosette, these all housed in its green leatherette covered fitted presentation case, this decorated with the eagle of the Republic of Egypt on the outer lid and additionally titled in Arabic. Very Rare.
Condition: some slight loss to enamel work on the red dome centre on sash badge, and similar but with repair to the same on breast star. Otherwise general evidence of wear, some toning, Very Fine.
The sash badge consisting of a ten-pointed base, superimposed on a five-pointed star in blue enamel, decorated with Islamic inscriptions, the obverse centrepiece bearing the word ‘REPUBLIC’ in Arabic, inclusive of eagle suspension, approximate measurements are 83.3 mm (height) x 62.4 mm (width), weighs 68.3 grams, mark denoting Cairo manufacture on the reverse.
The Star of the Order, consisting of a ten-pointed base, superimposed on a five-pointed star in blue enamel, decorated with Islamic inscriptions, the obverse centrepiece bearing the word REPUBLIC in Arabic, enamels intact, measuring 103 mm in diameter from top of eagle to base, weighs 170.40 grams, mark denoting Cairo manufacture on the reverse, reverse pin back flanked by dual prongs.
The Order of the Republic was established in 1953 and was awarded for valuable services to Egypt. The Grand Cordon is granted to the ministers or those in their position, and they receive it directly from the President whenever possible.
