Egypt Medal 1882, undated reverse, no clasp, late issue naming in small impressed capitals awarded to Leading Seaman T.H. Abbott, Royal Navy who saw service aboard HMS Dryad during the Egyptian War of 1882.

Thomas Henry Abbott was born in Stoke Damerel, Devon on 10th April 1856 and first saw served as a Boy Sailor 1st Class, he would be noted aboard Caledonia from 1st January 1873 until 31st October 1874, being promoted Ordinary Seaman on 10th April 1874. He would transfer to Royal Adelaide on 1st November 1874 until on 8th November 1874 he was posted to Narcissus, being promoted Able Seaman on 1st September 1876 and remaining aboard until 22nd May 1877.
He would subsequently serve aboard Cambridge from 23rd May 1877 until 17th December 1879, when he would transfer to Dryad. He would be appointed Leading Seaman on 1st December 1883 and would remain aboard Dryad until 1st February 1884 at some stage taking part in the operations during the Egyptian War. He would subsequently serve aboard Royal Adelaide from 2nd February 1884 until 23rd April 1884 being noted as being sent to shore, time expired.
However he appears to have re-signed as on 24th April 1884 he would join Cambridge, he would serve aboard Cambridge until 24th October 1884, and the subsequently served with Tamar from 25th October 1884 until 15th January 1885, Nelson from 15th January 1885 until 22nd January 1889 where he would be appointed 2nd Captain of the Quarterdeck on 21st October 1886.
After a short period aboard Cambridge from 23rd January 1889 until 1st April 1889, he would then join the Coastguard as a Boatman with Neptune from 2nd April 1889 until 18th July 1893, when he would join Holyhead having been promoted to Commissioned Boatman. His final discharge date was 3rd November 1898.
Abbott would receive the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 4th January 1889.
