Charles Shears was born near Chatham, Kent and giving his trade as a Lime Burner enlisted on 5th July 1870 and would go on to serve as a Private (No. 2322) with the Royal Marines and was present during the Egyptian War of 1882 and in action at the Battle of Tel-el-Kebir on 13th September 1882 before being discharged on 10th November 1882. His record of service notes him as present at the engagements at Ramleh, Kassassin and Tel-El-Kebir.
Discharged on 10th November 1882 after 12 years and 128 days. Further research is required to determine entitlement to the 2nd and 3rd clasps as this service was not with the Royal Marines.
