Egypt Medal 1882-1889, dated reverse, 1 Clasp: The Nile 1884-85, awarded to Private G.B. West, 1st Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment who saw service in Egypt during the Egyptian War and was present during the expedition along the Nile to relieve General Gordon at Khartoum in 1884 to 1885.

Condition: some pitting and a couple of edge bruises at 3 o’clock, Very Fine
George Baker West was born at Shoreham, near Brighton, and giving his trade as a Brickmaker enlisted as a Private (No. 1802) with the 1st Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment on 4th October 1880. Initially serving in England, he would travel to Malta on 1st January 1881, where he remained until moving to Cyprus on 26th October 1881.
He subsequently travelled to Egypt on 9th September 1882 later being present during the expedition along the Nile to relieve General Gordon at Khartoum in 1884 to 1885. Leaving Egypt on 11th September 1885, he would travel home where he remained until his discharge on 29th September 1892.
He subsequently re-enlisted on 21st October 1892 before finally being discharged on 20th October 1896.
