Efficiency Medal, GVI 2nd type bust, Territorial suspension, awarded to Captain E.M. Mannheim, Royal Army Service Corps, Territorial Army, who was of German Jewish descent but born in the Caribbean in Manchester, Jamaica. Commissioned in October 1941, he went on to be awarded a Mention in Despatches for gallant and distinguished service in Italy in the London Gazette for 11th January 1945, and was then gazetted with the award of the Efficiency Medal on 25th June 1948.

Emmanuel Milton Mannheim was born on 16th March 1916 in Manchester, Jamaica, the son of a Soloman “Solly” Mannheim, of German-Jewish descent, and his wife Annie Mentel. Mannheim originally joined the Territorial Army, and with the Second World War was then commissioned from Cadet to be a 2nd Lieutenant (No.214023) into the Royal Army Service Corps on 11th October 1941, and went on to see service during the campaign in Italy, being awarded a Mention in Despatches for gallant and distinguished service in the London Gazette for 11th January 1945. Mannheim was awarded the Efficiency Medal in the London Gazette for 25th June 1948. Mannheim was living in Guildford, Surrey as of 1946, and died in Sefton, Lancashire in February 2002.
