East and West Africa Medal 1887-1900, no clasp, impressed M’wele 1895-6 to either side of the suspension, naming very nearly erased. Issued to those who took part in any one of a series of actions against the Kenyan coastal Arabs under the leader Mbaruk. A naval force under the command of Admiral Rawson was despatched to Mbaruk’s stronghold at M’wele. Following its capture, Arab dominance of the Kenyan coast was effectively ended.
