Frederick Davos was born in the parish of St. Catherine, Spanish Town, Middlesex, Jamaica. He enlisted on 1st July 1893, aged 22 years, giving his trade as a carpenter. He saw service in the West Indies from 11th July 1893 to 17th December 1894, West Africa 18th December 1894 to 3rd October 1898 and as a member of the 2nd Battalion, West India Regiment then saw service in the expeditions in the hinterland of Lagos and the northern territories of the Gold Coast between September 1897 and 14th June 1898.
He would then serve in the West Indies on 4th October 1898 to 26th November 1901 when he would be medically unfit for further service. Davos was one of 559 men of the 2nd Battalion, West India Regiment to claim the medal with the clasp 1897-98.
