The Denmark–Schleswig Commemorative Medal (1920) — often called the “Genforeningsmedalje” or Reunion Medal — was a Danish silver medal issued to commemorate the reunification of Northern Schleswig (Sønderjylland) with Denmark in 1920, following the end of the First World War.
The medal marks one of the most significant national events in modern Danish history. After Denmark’s defeat in the Second Schleswig War (1864), the duchies of Schleswig, Holstein, and Lauenburg were ceded to Prussia and Austria. For the next 56 years, Schleswig remained under German rule. Following Germany’s defeat in 1918, the Treaty of Versailles granted the right to self-determination to the population of the disputed border region. Two plebiscites were held in 1920:
