Awarded to Foot Constable Sultan, this medal was issued to mark the Delhi Durbar held in the King Emperor’s honour in December 1911. Most of the gold medals went to the Indian Princely rulers and top government officials, 10,000 of the 30,000 silver medals were awarded to officers and other ranks of the British and Indian Armies for exemplary service whilst out in India but without having necessarily been present at the Durbar itself.
