Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers’ Decoration, Victoria cypher, unnamed as issued, hallmarks for London with date letter ‘f’ for 1901, the last year in which Queen Victoria reigned, complete with original suspension, ribbon, and foliated top bar. A superb example of type and very scarce.
Condition: lightly toned, overall Extremely Fine.
Awarded to officers of the Auxiliary Forces everywhere except in India for 20 years commissioned service. Service in the ranks counted half and service in West Africa counted double. Although issued unnamed, it was usually impressed or engraved privately. Examples to officers in the smaller colonies command a premium. It became obsolete in 1930. This example originated from Mauritius.
