Ernest A. Smith was born in Thundersley, Essex and enlisted at Southend initially seeing service as a Private (No. 32781) and later with the 2nd Battalion, South Wales Borderers (No. 40770) subsequently dying of wounds on 4th June 1917 and being buried in Duisans British Cemetery, Etrun and is noted as the son of Mr. W. Smith, of Prospect House, Daws Heath, Thundersley.
