Casualty Queen’s South Africa Medal 1899-1902, 7 Clasps: Cape Colony, Tugela Heights, Orange Free State, Relief of Ladysmith, Laing’s Nek, Belfast, South Africa 1901 awarded to Corporal A.B. Smith, South African Light Horse who saw extensive service in South Africa during the Boer War being present on operations in the Cape Colony, and during the relief of Ladysmith including the forcing of the Tugela Heights in February 1900. Also present in action at Laing’s Nek and Belfast and on operations in the Orange Free State and who would be killed on 28th June 1901 near Phillipolis.

Condition: non-swivel suspender, identical to those found a British War Medal, typical of a late issue, Good Very Fine
Awarded to Corporal (No. 53) A.B. Smith, South Africa Light Horse who saw extensive service in South Africa during the Boer War being present on operations in the Cape Colony, and during the relief of Ladysmith including the forcing of the Tugela Heights in February 1900. Also present in action at Laing’s Nek and Belfast and on operations in the Orange Free State.
He would be killed on 28th June 1901 near Phillipolis, presumably in one of a number of skirmishes involving the South African Light Horse that took place as they cleared the area that was in Orange Free State, 45km to the west of Springfontein.
