Casualty Queen’s South Africa Medal 1899-1902, 4 Clasps: Belmont, Modder River, Transvaal, Wittebergen awarded to Private H.C. Smith, 2nd Battalion, Yorkshire Light Infantry who saw service in South Africa during the Boer War where he was present during the operations in the Transvaal as well as in the actions at Belmont, Modder River and Wittebergen. He would die of disease at Pretoria on 22nd June 1901.

Smith, 2nd Battalion, The King’s Own (Yorkshire Light Infantry) saw service in South Africa during the Boer War where he was present during the operations in the Transvaal as well as in the actions at Belmont, Modder River and Wittebergen and would later die of disease at Pretoria on 22nd June 1901. He is also remembered on the Town Hall Porch Tablet in Peterborough and Northampton, Duncombe Place, Edwardian Cross in Yorkshire, in St. Michael’s Chapel Memorial to the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, York.
