Perkins saw service as a Private (No. 5685) with the 3rd Battalion, East Kent Regiment in South Africa during the Boer War where he would take part in the operations in Cape Colony and Orange Free State. He died of disease at Kroonstad on 8th May 1901, and is shown on the roll as additionally entitled to the bar South Africa 1901.
