Charles Henry Matthews was born in Aldershot, and resided there, before enlisting in London and would go on to see service as a Private (No. 47730) with the Rifle Brigade. He would be killed in action on 21st September 1918 and having no known grave he is remembered on the Vis-En-Artois Memorial.
