Frank Shepherd entered the Army Reserve on 24th June 1916 and would be mobilised on 23rd July 1917, entering the 4th Reserve Battalion the following day.
He would serve with Hawke Battalion, Royal Naval Division in France from 19th November 1917 and is recorded as having been gassed on 17th March 1918, subsequently being treated at No.48 Casualty Clearing Station.
After his recovery, he would travel back to France on 25th November 1918.
