Robert Getty was born in Ballymena, County Antrim in 1890 and enlisted at Balllykinlar, County Down on 27th October 1914 seeing service as a Rifleman (No. 6444) with the 2nd Battalion, Royal Irish Rifles on the Western Front from 31st August 1914 subsequently being killed in action on 27th October 1914. Having no known grave he is remembered on the Le Touret Memorial and is noted as the son of the late Robert Getty, husband of Ellen Sinclair Getty of James Street, Ballymena, County Antrim.
