Robert Brough was born in Newtown, Manchester and lived in Bradford before enlisting at Manchester and initially serving as a Private (No. 9220) in the 17th Battalion, Manchester Regiment served on the Western Front from 8th November 1915. He would later transfer to the 1st Battalion, Border Regiment where he served as a Private (No. 29690).
Brough would be killed in action on 15th October 1918 and is now buried in Dadizeele New British Cemetery, he is noted as the husband of Catherine Carter (formerly Brough) of 34 Carlisle Street, Beswick, Manchester.
