Campaign Service Medal 1962, 2 Clasps: Borneo, Malay Peninsula, the second clasp loose on ribbon, awarded to Able Seaman D. Cullender, Royal Navy, who saw service aboard the minesweeper Fiskerton, a part of the 6th Minesweeping Squadron on operations out in the Far East. Operating from Singapore she conducted various north Borneo patrols and Singapore Straits patrols during the period that encompassed the operations in Borneo during the Indonesian Insurgency in the period from 24 December 1962 through to 11 August 1966, and the operations in the Malay Peninsula which lasted from 17 August 1964 through to 11 August 1966. In January 1968 she sailed for the United Kingdom via South Africa. It was whilst at Cape Town on 11 March 1968 that Cullender died, and having been cremated, on 19 March his ashes were committed to the deep, with Fiskerton flying her flag at half mast.

Derek Cullender was born on 15 July 1943 and saw service as an Able Seaman (No.J.981368) in the Royal Navy. Cullender saw active service aboard the minesweeper H.M.S Fiskerton, that saw service out in the Far East from November 1959 continuously through to January 1968, she being a part of the 6th Minesweeping Squadron. Operating from Singapore she conducted various north Borneo patrols and Singapore Straits patrols during the period that encompassed the operations in Borneo during the Indonesian Insurgency in the period from 24 December 1962 through to 11 August 1966, and the operations in the Malay Peninsula which lasted from 17 August 1964 through to 11 August 1966.
Fiskerton was briefly attached to the 8th Minesweeping Squadron at Hong Kong during January to October 1967, and in January 1968 sailed for the United Kingdom via South Africa.
