British War Medal 1914-1919 awarded to Private J.E. Warner, 1st/6th Battalion, Devonshire Regiment, who originally saw service with another battalion out on the Western Front from 27th July 1915, but having transferred to the 1st/6th Battalion, then saw service in Mesopotamia where he died of cholera on 17th September 1916.

John George Warner was born in Hoxton, London, and enlisted into the Territorial Force at Walthamstow, and then saw service during the Great War as a Private (No.3821) with the Devonshire Regiment out on the Western Front from 27th July 1915. Later present out in Mesopotamia with the 1st/6th Battalion, which battalion arrived at Basra in January 1916, he died of cholera on 17th September 1916 and is buried in Amara War Cemetery
