John Bennett enlisted on 23rd October 1914 and saw service as a Private (No. 1693) with the Middlesex Regiment in Egypt from 18th July 1917 also as a Private (No. 621927) with the Labour Corps. Whilst with the Labour Corps he was tried by District Court Martial on 14th April 1916 for being drunk and striking a superior officer. He would be discharged on 25th March 1919.
