Adrian C.G.T. Taunton was born in Chelsea and worked as a publishing assistant before joining the Royal Naval volunteer Reserve on 5th July 1916 for the duration of hostilities. He would briefly serve aboard H.M.S. Arab on the northern convoy route between 26th June 1917 and 21st March 1918.
H.M.S. Arab was involved in successfully driving away a German submarine on 4th July 1917.
