Leonard H. Wade was born in Northamptonshire, and then saw service during the Second World War initially as a Lieutenant and Temporary Captain (No.157270) with the General List and assigned to the Pioneer Corps. Having seen service in East Africa and Abyssinia, he was then Mentioned in Despatches for gallant and distinguished service in the Middle East in the London Gazette for 15th December 1942. Wade was serving as a Major with the Pioneer Corps in Egypt when he died in service on 25th July 1945, being buried in Cairo Cemetery.
