Wilfred Francis Butler was born in Cirencester and having enlisted at Gloucester, then saw service during the Great War as a Private (No.11093) with the 7th Service Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment, being present out at Gallipoli from 19th June 1915, he was killed in action on 4th August 1915. Having no known grave, he is commemorated by name on the Helles Memorial.
