Boer War pair awarded to Private W. Randall, 2nd Battalion, East Kent Regiment who saw service in South Africa during the Boer War being present on operations at the Relief of Kimberley on 15th February 1900, in action at Paardeberg on 17th to 26th February 1900, and at Driefontein on 10th March 1900, as well as on operations in the Transvaal. He had earlier been present in India during the relief of Chitral which lasted from 7th March to 15th August 1895.

William Randall was born in Tenterden, Ashford, Kent and giving his trade as a Labourer he joined at Canterbury on 11th March 1889 before being posted to the 2nd Battalion, East Kent Regiment – the Buffs, and serving in Indian he would take part in the operations during the relief of Chitral which lasted from 7th March to 15th August 1895.
Randall would then be transferred to the Army Reserve on 16th January 1897, he was recalled to Army Service on 4th December 1899 and posted to the East Kent Regiment.
He would arrive in South Africa on 22nd December 1899 and would take part in the Boer War being present on operations at the Relief of Kimberley on 15th February 1900, in action at Paardeberg on 17th to 26th February 1900, and at Driefontein on 10th March 1900, as well as on operations in the Transvaal.
Returning to the UK, he would be discharged on 10th March 1902.
