Foster, 1st Battalion, Rifle Brigade who saw service during the Boer War in South Africa where he would take part in operations in the Cape Colony, during the relief of Ladysmith and the forcing of the Tugela Heights, and subsequent operations in the Transvaal and the action at Laing’s Nek.

George Foster was born in Hampshire and giving his trade as a Carman would join the 1st Battalion, Rifle Brigade on 4th January 1892. Serving at home until 14th October 1894 he would then travel to Hong Kong where he would remain until 5th March 1897. Another period in the UK followed until 29th October 1899 when he would travel to South Africa to take part in the Boer War.
During the Boer War he would take part in operations in the Cape Colony, during the relief of Ladysmith and the forcing of the Tugela Heights, and subsequent operations in the Transvaal and the action at Laing’s Nek.
Returning home on 13th September 1902 he would be discharged on 3rd January 1904
