Harry Greatorix Sims was born in Gloucester, the son of Thomas Francis and Martha Agnes Sims, confectioners of Royal Bakery, Charlton Kings and of Royal Cottage, Horsefair Street, Charlton Kings.
He enlisted into the 10th (Service) Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment in Cheltenham in September 1914 and served with the machine-gun section in France during the Somme Offensive of 1916. Throughout the months of July and August the battalion was frequently in the front lines near Martinpuich and Mametz Wood. It was, no doubt during the one of these actions that Private Sims was wounded, subsequently being evacuated back to England, where he died on 26th September 1916. He is now buried in Charlton Kings New Burial Ground.
