Edward George Gapper was born in Cheltenham and enlisted there into the Gloucestershire Regiment. He would be reported as killed in action serving with the 10th Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment on 20th July 1916, having originally been posted missing on the 17th. At this time the Battalion was serving in the Becourt Wood area on the Somme.
Having no known grave he is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. He lived at 5 Rose & Crown Passage, Cheltenham.
