Awarded to Private (No. 171) G. Hughes, 7th Dragoon Guards who served during the Egyptian War of 1882, being present at the Battle of Tel-El-Kebir on 13th September 1882 where his unit won lasting fame for the famous charge they too park in along with the Household Cavalry at Kassassin. The charge took place at dusk on 13th September 1882 and the combined force charged down on the Egyptian Infantry totally annihilating them. Had it not been for the descending darkness they would have gone on to capture the enemy in.
