Battle of Normandy casualty General Service Medal 1918-1962, GVIR 1 Clasp: Palestine awarded to Private T.W. Edwards, or Edmonds, Foresters, later 6th Battalion, The Green Howards who having seen pre-war service in Palestine during the Arab Revolt, would go on to take part in the invasion of Normandy most likely landing on Gold Beach with the Battalion on the morning of D-Day, he would be killed in action on 11th June 1944 in the fighting to the west of Caen and is now buried in St. Manvieu Cemetery, Cheux.

Awarded to Private (No. 4974468) T.W. Edwards, Foresters, who having seen service during the Arab Revolt in Palestine would later be killed in action as Lance Corporal T.W. Edmonds, 6th Battalion, The Green Howards, in Normandy on 11th June 1944, having most likely landed on Gold Beach on D-Day itself. The son of Thomas and Eliza Edmonds of Nuncar Gate, Nottinghamshire he is now buried at St, Manvieu Cemetery, Cheux.
Note the difference in surname between the medal and the casualty records but with an identical service number and initials this is clearly the same man.
