Fusilier (No. 4270721) R. Stobbart, 4th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers was taken Prisoner of War at Gazala on 6th June 1942 whilst serving with the 50th Reconnaissance Regiment as a Trooper, he would survive the war and is later noted as ‘previously reported Prisoner of War in Italian hands now not Prisoner of War.’
50th Reconnaissance Regiment formed April 1941 in the 50th (Northumbrian) Infantry Division from the 4th Battalion, Royal Northumberland Fusiliers, previously the division's motorcycle battalion; disbanded and remnants returned to the 4th Royal Northumberland Fusiliers after action at the Battle of Gazala June 1942
