Donald McPherson, also shown as Donald McLennan on the Sea Gallantry Medal Roll and in The Times, was a seaman serving aboard the merchant steamship “Iberia” of Ardrossan when he earned the Board of Trade’s Sea Gallantry Medal in Bronze, one of two silver and six bronze medals awarded, for services during the rescue of the crew of the shipwrecked crew of the barque “Annabella” of Banff, which sank in the Bay of Biscay on 12th November 1886. The medals to be awarded for this incident, were ordered by the Board of Trade on 19th February 1887, and an account of the awards being made was published in The Times on 25th March 1887.
