Alfred Carter was born in Tangley, Wiltshire and would go on to see service as a Private (No. 766) with the 1st Battalion, 22nd Foot (Cheshire) and was present at Malta in 1861 and later in 1871 was present in Kinsale, Ireland and would be discharged on 30th September 1879 after 21 years service, he would later be awarded a Meritorious Service Medal.
