Thomas Griffiths was born at Ford, Shrewsbury, and attested at Shrewsbury, Salop on 30th January 1846 giving his trade as a Groom. He would subsequently see service with the 1st Battalion, 25th Foot for a total of 21 years and 7 days, 11 years and 3 months of which would be overseas. 8 years, 9 months in the East Indies and 2 years, 6 months in Gibraltar before being discharged at Preston on 5th February 1867.
Upon discharge, his conduct was given as very good, when promoted to Sergeant he had 2 good conduct badges and would have had 5 had he not been promoted. He appeared in the Regimental Defaulters Book once, and was never tried by court-martial. He was awarded the Long Service Medal with a gratuity.
