Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, Victoria small letter reverse, engraved naming, awarded to Rifleman Thomas Rumble, 4th Battalion, Rifle Brigade, from Streatley, near Reading, Berkshire, originally saw service in the Berkshire Militia. Present out in India between October 1873 and January 1888, he saw service during the Jowaki Expedition of 1877 to 1878; the Second Afghanistan War during 1878 to 1879 when present in action at Ali Musjid on 21st November 1878; and the Waziri Expedition of 1881.

Thomas Rumble was born in Streatley, near Reading, Berkshire, and having worked as a labourer and seen seven months service in the Berkshire Militia, then attested for regular service with the British Army at Reading on 14th September 1870, joining as a Rifleman (No.1907 later No.9385) the 4th Battalion, Rifle Brigade. Rumble was posted out to India from 21st October 1873, and whilst there saw service during the Jowaki Expedition of 1877 to 1878; the Second Afghanistan War during 1878 to 1879 when present in action at Ali Musjid on 21st November 1878; and the Waziri Expedition of 1881.
Posted home on 26th January 1888, he was discharged on 5th February 1890. Additionally entitled to the Afghanistan Medal 1878-1880 with clasp for Ali Musjid, and the India General Service Medal 1854-1895, with clasp for Jowaki 1877-78.
