Alexander Kelly saw 20 years 353 days service with the colours, 15 years of which was overseas, this including 2 years 1 month in Corfu, 2 years in Malta, 5 months in Turkey, 1 year 9 months in the Crimea, 3 months in Gibraltar, 7 years and 6 months in British North America and 1 year in the West Indies.
Kelly was discharged on 25th November 1874, having earnt entitlement to the Crimea Medal with clasps for Alma, Inkermann and Sebastopol, The Turkish Crimea Medal and this Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. His conduct was noted as very good having never been tried by court martial or the Regimental defaulter’s book. In possession of 2 good conduct badges he would have had 5 had he not been promoted to Sergeant.
His intended place of residence upon discharge was Kilrush, County Clare, Ireland.
