John Boustead was born in Wigton, Cumberland on 15th December 1858 and attested into the 11th Regiment of Foot on 15th December 1858 and would see 19 years and 45 days service including 12 years and 9 months in India before his discharge at Devonport on 28th January 1878 being unfit for further service his conduct being noted a very good, and being in possession of four good conduct badges. His name never appears in the Regimental Defaulters Book and he was never tried by court-martial.
