William Squibb was born in Woking, Surrey and giving his trade as a Labourer attested on 21st August 1883 subsequently seeing service with the Rifle Brigade, he would extend his service to 12 years with the colours on 30th September 1890 whilst serving as a Corporal, and would appointed as Serjeant on 27th January 1892.
Squibb had seen service in India and Burma between 7th March 1884 and 23rd April 1895, and earnt entitlement to an India General Service Medal 1854-1895 with clasps for Burma 1885-7 and Burma 1887-9.
Re-engaged to complete 21 years on 24th January 1895, he would be promoted to Colour Serjeant on 1st March 1898, and would be discharged on 11th February 1903, having been awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 1st January 1902.
