George Argent was born in Stourbridge, Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire and enlisted into the 58th (Rutlandshire) Regiment of Foot, seeing 21 years and 24 days service including 8 years in the East Indies being discharged on 18th December 1865 his conduct being noted as very good, having never been court-martialled.
