Awarded to Colour Sergeant (No.5) Joseph Gould, Grenadier Guards. Unfortunately there are no papers for a man of this service number. However, there is a No.847 who fits the age profile. He was born at St. George’s, Bristol. Who joined at Horse Guards on 27th December 1859 giving his trade as a machinist. He would serve 21 years and 64 days at home ending his career as a Sergeant before being discharged on 11th August 1881.
It is possible the number on the medal is incorrect or this medal belongs to another unknown man.
