Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, EVII bust awarded to Private V. West, Middlesex Regiment in Army Order 235 of 1902. Also saw service in South Africa during the Boer War being awarded a Queen’s South Africa Medal with six clasps and a King’s South Africa Medal with two clasps.

Valentine West was born in Yewsley, Uxbridge and attesting on 17th March 1884 initially served at home until 18th January 1886, when he travelled to the East Indies where he would spend the next twelve years, before laving for home on 12th February 1898. After a short period at home he would travel to South Africa where he would be present between 2nd December 1899 and 15th February 1903 earning entitlement to a Queen’s South Africa Medal with 6 clasps and a King’s South Africa Medal with 2 clasps. He would also be awarded this Army Long Service and Good Conduct in Army Order 235 of 1902.
Returning home on 16th February 1903, he would be finally discharged on 16th March 1905 after 21 years service.
