Frederick Eales was born in Peckham, London and giving his trade as Warehouseman attested at London 22nd July 1890 giving his trade as a warehouseman and stating he had previous service with the 21st Volunteer Battalion, Middlesex Regiment.
He would quickly be appointed Lance Corporal on 28th October 1890, reverting to Private on 15th November 1890, appointed unpaid Lance Corporal on 24th November 1890 he would again revert to Private on 11th February 1891.
He would transfer to 1st Battalion, East Kent Regiment on 11th October 1891, transferring back to 2nd Battalion on 25th May 1894 and being appointed Lance Corporal on 27th August 1894, being posted to the Depot on 15th November 1895, and then being promoted Corporal on 7th November 1896 and promoted Sergeant on 8th March 1899. He would re-engage at Kroonstaad on 13th August 1901 to complete 21 years service, being promoted to Colour Sergeant on 6th June 1902 and then being discharged on 20th October 1910.
