Jeremiah Callaghan was born in Fermoy, Cork and giving his trade as a Labourer attested at Hounslow on 16th November 1881. He would serve at home until 19th October 1882, when he would travel to the East Indies where he served for over 10 years until on 10th November 1892 he returned back to the UK.
Callaghan was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in District Order No.1 on 8th August 1903, being discharged on 19th January 1903 after 22 years and 65 days service.
