George C. Stones saw service as a Serjeant Drummer (No. 3681) with the Manchester Regiment. Having initially attested on 12th July 1892 he served at home until 12th February 1902 when he would travel to South Africa where he would participate in the Boer War taking part in the operations in Cape Colony and Orange Free State.
On 1st October 1902 he would arrive back in the UK and would remain there until on 25th December 1904 he would arrive back in South Africa. He would return once more to the UK on 27th October 1906, and then travelled to India on 14th March 1909. He would finally discharge on 15th February 1911.
Later re-enlisting for the Great War he would see service as a Regimental Quarter Master Sergeant (No. 10309) with the Manchester Regiment on the Western Front from 18th November 1915
