An unusual Great War ‘Mother’s Medal’ in the form of a brooch featuring Victoria, the Roman Goddess of Victory with her arm outstretched holding a great above the text, ‘PRESENTED FOR SACRIFICE MADE IN THE Great War 1914-1919; the reverse inscribed ‘MOTHER’S MEDAL / PTE H S MABELL’ in memory of Private H. S. Mabell, “C” Company, 78th Bn., Canadian Infantry, who was killed in action on 31st October 1917.
