An unusual Great War Mercantile Marine and post war Army Service in N.W. Persia and Waziristan group awarded to Merchant Seaman William Shayler, Mercantile Marine, later Private, Royal Berkshire Regiment who saw service with the Mercantile during the Great War before transferring to the Royal Berkshire Regiment with whom he would be present during the operations with Noperforce in North West Persia which lasted from 10th August to 31st December 1920, as well as during the operations on the North West Frontier in Waziristan during the period from 1921 to 1924.

William Shayler was born in London and saw service as a Merchant Seaman with the Mercantile Marine during the Great War. He would subsequently serve as a Private (No. 5328889) with the Royal Berkshire Regiment after the war with whom he would be present during the operations with Noperforce in North West Persia which lasted from 10th August to 31st December 1920, as well as during the operations on the North West Frontier in Waziristan during the period from 1921 to 1924.
