Awarded to 2nd Lieutenant Leslie Tilden Smith, 7th Battalion, King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, who was killed in action on 16th September 1916 during the Battle of Flers-Courcelette, and having no known grave is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial. He was the son of Sydney A. and Florence M. Smith of Howard House, Maidstone, Kent.
Smith was additionally entitled to a 1914-1915 Star having entered France in January 1915.
